Integrating Exposure and Response Prevention into Nutrition Treatment for Eating Disorders

Course Description:

Exposure with response prevention (ERP) is a very effective treatment used in the treatment of eating disorders. Dietitians play a key role in implementing this treatment.

Course Description:

  1. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to describe the rationale for using exposure with response prevention during nutrition therapy sessions
  2. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to describe strategies used during the exposure part of the session in order to challenge patients
  3. At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to describe methods to identify challenge foods and help patients rank foods prior to beginning the therapy.

Amy Helms, LMSW, MS, CEDRD, RD, LD, CCTP if the owner and founder of New Hope Counseling and Wellness Center in Columbia, SC. She is dually licensed as a dietitian and therapist. She is the coordinator of the South Carolina Eating Disorders Association, Leader of the Project Heal Midlands of South Carolina Chapter and uses a faithbased approach to help individuals with eating disorders, trauma, and other life stressors achieve a balanced life. She is certified in trauma sensitive yoga. In her free time, she loves playing with her two children, playing tennis, and advising 320 members of a collegiate sorority chapter.
